Fueling Up
My wife was on a non-stop flight from Seattle to Atlanta. The trip duration was scheduled for approximately 5 hours. Well about 4 hours and 30 mins into the flight it encountered severe thunderstorms that forced the plane to circle Atlanta for about an hour. My wife had a long day and was 30 mins away from landing but a storm delayed that landing. After the hour of circling the pilot came over the intercom system and told everyone they have been diverted to Columbus, GA to land. The reason ……”The planes fuel is low and we need to fuel up.”

When I heard the story I thought about how as Christians we fuel up by spending time in God’s word and praying. Then we go out into the world an encounter trials and storms. In James 1:2 (NIV) it reads “Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds” and Romans 5:3 (NLT) “We can rejoice, too, when we run into problems and trials, for we know that they help us develop endurance.” so we know trials and storms will come. In order to be fueled up to have the endurance to make it through the storm we need to be in God’s word. The airplane mechanically was ok to have the endurance to go the distance. But the lack of fuel caused an unexpected landing. Without enough fuel the airplane would crash if it did not stop to fuel up. The same applies to our Spiritual fuel. If we do not fuel up on a regular basis we will be overtaken by the storms in our lives which could lead to a crash.
Christ is the source of our strength. We need Him to fuel up.
John 15: 5 – “Yes, I am the vine; you are the branches. Those who remain in Me, and I in them, will produce much fruit. For apart from Me you can do nothing”
Philippians 4:13 – “For I can do everything through Christ,who gives me strength”
Ephesians 3:20 – “Now all glory to God, who is able, through His mighty power at work within us, to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think”
Ephesians 6:10 – “A final word: Be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power”
How often should we fuel up? The Bible says we should meditate on God’s word day and night Joshua 1:8 and Psalm 1:2. It also says that we should pray continually Romans 12:12 (NLT) and 1 Thessalonians 5:17.
Remember trials and storms will come. So do not be surprised. 1 Peter 4:12 (NLT) – “Dear friends, don’t be surprised at the fiery trials you are going through, as if something strange were happening to you” stay fueled up on God’s word and promises. I am so thankful that The Lord loves me and supplies my Spiritual fuel that is never ending if I am obedient to His will. 1 Timothy 1:12 (NLT) – “I thank Christ Jesus our Lord, who has given me strength to do his work. He considered me trustworthy and appointed me to serve him”. Are you fueling up daily?
