Insurance to Assurance

During the last week of October 2013 I came home a little early to get ready to attend a fundraising Missions event.  When I walked into my home, it was raining in the kitchen.  My home has three levels and on the third level a sink was not turned completely off and the water made its way down to the second level then eventually down to the first level.  The water found the tiniest openings and destroyed multiple levels of my home.  Well the insurance company was called and they gave me the assurance the damage would be repaired.

I’m RW and let’s have a fireside chat about “As Christians the assurance we have in Jesus?”

The water in my home reminds me of the sin in our lives.  It enters and has the ability to destroy what it comes in contact with.  God told Adam not to eat from the Tree of Life (Genesis 2:17).  But sin was introduced when Eve and Adam ate from the tree (Genesis 3:6-10).  Adam and Eve (sin) remind me of the sink (water) in my home.  It was a single action/source that started all kinds of destruction.  The insurance company is working with me to repair the damage to make the place look like it was or better.    But the damage that sin does in our lives can only be healed, fixed, repaired through the assurance we have in Jesus Christ.  No insurance company can fix that.  You see when you accept Jesus as your Lord and Savior we are new and better than what we were.  In 2 Corinthians 5: 17 it reads “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come. The old has gone, the new is here!”  As Christian we are brand-new on the inside with the Holy Spirit.  We are a new creation living in union with Christ.  Do you truly understand what this means or do you try to live in the ways of your past?

Our heavenly Father is the creator of everything and He also said He “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.” (Hebrews. 13:5b).  Knowing that does your heart truly desire (Psalm 37:4) to have the faith and assurance (Hebrews 11:1) to seek His will and do the will He has placed on your heart (Mark 3:35)?

I want to encourage you today to protect the assurance we have in Christ and to let others know about what that assurance is and how it changed your life.  You see my experience at my house went from a disaster to relying on insurance to having the assurance it is going to be restored to what it once was.  Now when it comes to me as a person with Jesus in my life as my Savior I am not putting my faith in insurance.  I am putting my faith in assurance for what Christ did at the cross dying for my sins.  With the assurance not insurance I have a personal relationship that recreated who I am forever and gave me eternal life.  Jesus has the ability to fix the damage in my life.  I was not restored to my old self but I was recreated to something better.  Hebrews 10:22 “let us draw near to God with a sincere heart and with the full assurance that faith brings, having our hearts sprinkled to cleanse us from a guilty conscience and having our bodies washed with pure water.”

Protect the Brand of Christ by protecting the assurance we have in Christ.
