Are You Having Impact?

In the last blog I wrote about some thoughts I had from a leadership conference I attended.  There was a lady named Laura that spoke there also about her encounter with an 11 year-old panhandler name Maurice. There were three words that changed her life forever.  “I am hungry”

I’m RW and let’s have a fireside chat about “Impact”

Laura was walking down the street one day a came upon Maurice who was asking for some change to get some food because he was hungry.   Laura replied “I have no change” and kept walking.   As a Christian I think about how people we walk by that are hungry for God’s word and we keep walking by and not even offer it to them.  Laura took a few steps and stopped in her tracks and turned around and went back to Maurice.  This reminds me of Matthew 25:34-46.Verse 45 really sticks out to me “He will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for Me.’ When it comes to spiritual food are you one that keeps on walking and ignore the Holy Spirit calling for you to share? Matthew 5:6 “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled” Laura offered to buy Maurice some food.  Laura went away and about a week later she wondered about Maurice.  She went back to the spot where she found him the first time.  He was there still hungry.  John 6:33-3533 For the bread of God is the bread that comes down from heaven and gives life to the world. 34 “Sir,” they said, “always give us this bread.” 35 Then Jesus declared, “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to Me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in Me will never be thirsty.” As a Christian how many times do you return to follow-up with someone that may need spiritually food?

Laura goes on with the story where she indicates that her family members asked her to stop helping Maurice because it could be dangerous.  Laura knew of the background that Maurice came from.  Laura also knew that where he came from did not have to dictate who he could become and she knew deep down she was called to help him.  I think about how some Christian look at others and decide based on looks whether than are going to help them or not.   The Bible says in John 7:25 “Stop judging by mere appearances, but instead judge correctly.” Do you lean on the Holy Spirit to drive whether you help someone or not?   You see Laura is one lady that decided to help one boy.   Hebrews 13:16 “And do not forget to do good and to share with others, for with such sacrifices God is pleased” The impact in his life will be forever. Their relationship/friendship has gone on for 30 years. Maurice is now 41 years old with a job and is married with seven kids. The kids know of the story and it will forever impact their lives as well.   You see the Lord God at times will prompt you to help someone physically and/or spiritually.  It is our job to be obedient to the calling.  What we may think of as irrelevant could have major impact in someone’s life.  You can be used to impact God’s Kingdom.  Will you all the Lord God to use you?
